fake empire

i heard the national’s fake empire last night @ mcdonald’s (hooray for filet-o-fish fridays!).
it followed madonna’s i’ll remember.
a quick look around told me i was the only one enjoying the song. it was, after all, 9:16pm friday night at the santa monica/western ave location. so you can imagine the amount of family’s with kids running around. many of them barefoot. the kind of people who have stations like kiis fm and star 98.7 tuned in their cars. still. sitting there sucking down my shamrock shake, i was delighted.
it was followed by stevie nick’s gypsy.
jogged up to daydreaming at the curio this afternoon to check out ladybird and advanced beginner. it was worth it. you can always count on the echo curio to provide decent music. that’s what i love about em.
got there just as advanced beginner began. (nice timing, eh?) fronted by sarah paul ocampo, this is a lucky lady avant garde moment full of pretty dresses, shots of whiskey and a fantastic comb blowing finale. see it for yourself.
all the way from france, ladybird was a treat. a sweet little french boy with songs of despair and a double bass. perfect for a bright sunny saturday afternoon. and bright works for ladybird, with his conor oberst similarities.
daydreaming fauxhawk
a splendid saturday afternoon indeed. let the evening debauchery begin.
